Sales / Operations Associate
Full Time - Job Description

Job Title: Sales / Operations Associate

Definition: Under the general supervision of the Store Manager and Sales Coordinator, the Sales / Operations Associate for the African People’s Education and Defense Fund (APEDF) maximizes opportunities to meet the daily sales goal, assists customers and coordinates the flow of furniture in and out of the store, carries out Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles (UFC) policies and protocols, and maintains a good relationship with all donors and customers.

Tasks:  

  • Making sales, using cash register and credit card machine, correctly filling out sales receipts and delivery receipts, scheduling deliveries, correctly articulating all store policies, welcoming customers, informing them who we are, representing APEDF in the best possible manner, encouraging people to support APEDF, signing up people for further involvement, handing out information.
  • Coordinate the safe moving of furniture in and out of the store (set up, breakdown, for pick-ups or deliveries, and throughout day as needed). Complete all items on the setup and breakdown checklist and, when not engaged with customers, carry out tasks on the daily checklist including cleaning and organizing the store.
  • Work closely with the Sales Coordinator throughout the day on all aspects of sales and furniture flow. Ensures that Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles policies are adhered to regarding keeping the sidewalk clear and furniture and collectibles stacked and displayed safely.
  • Review pick up schedule each morning to assess expected incoming furniture, create plan to display in store or outside or determine if it is necessary to store offsite. Review delivery schedule and pickups throughout the day to assess what furniture is going out and create plan for extracting and replacing it.
  • Take attractive pictures of new furniture as it is unloaded from the truck for the blog.
  • Spray all upholstered furniture with Sterifab in accordance to policies.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics: Agreement with the mission statement and policies of APEDF. Knowledgeable about APEDF programs and institutions. Passionate about social justice and economic development for the African community. Knowledge of general principles and practices associated with sales and customer service. Ability to provide excellent customer service, attention to detail and follow up skills. Skill in managing time effectively and completing assignments in a timely fashion. Establish and maintain cooperative and working relationships with coworkers and management. Work independently or as part of the team. Knowledge of furniture quality, style and period and current trends. Knowledge of the furniture market for pricing.

Physical Requirements: Ability to bend, stoop and stand and move and lift heavy objects, Work involves moderate to heavy physical effort and the need to get into difficult positions; ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Qualifications: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Two years or more of customer service and sales. Expert oral communication skills. Knowledge of furniture.
