With Uhuru Health and Book Fairs

ONE AFRICA! ONE NATION! MARKETPLACES and UHURU FLEA MARKET

APEDF began the Uhuru Flea Market monthly in Clark Park, West Philadelphia in 2006 to promote community commerce and economic self-reliance for the African community. Partnering with Black Star Industries’ One Africa! One Nation! Marketplaces, the Uhuru Flea Market has grown to include over 100 vendors and thousands of shoppers every month from April through October each year.

Low-cost vending spaces offer opportunities for everyone to create or grow their own business. The Marketplaces have a lasting, positive impact on unemployment and on the overall economic well-being of the African community by generating commerce that circulates resources locally within our communities.

Marketplaces are also held at our St. Petersburg, Florida and St. Louis, Missouri locations. Every Marketplace features African culture and entertainment, children’s and family activities along with a wide variety of products, services and food for sale. See below for information on vending, volunteering, sponsoring and more!

UHURU HEALTH FAIRS

To address the dire health disparities and lack of accessible healthcare resources faced by African people, APEDF holds free Uhuru Health Fairs at the Marketplace in Philadelphia each April, as well as in Oakland, California every May. Health Fairs are also held in St. Petersburg.

  • Diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDs and other health screenings

  • Healthy eating and cooking information and presentations
