The Fitness Gym Trainer will, under the supervision of the nonprofit African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF) Fitness and Wellness Program Manager, will provide, develop and improve fitness services to develop the nonprofit All People's TyRon Lewis Community Gym and Wellness Center as dynamic community resource to positively impact the individual and collective health of the African community.

Under the supervision of the Uhuru Furniture Store Manager, plans, directs and coordinates the marketing for donations and shoppers and builds and maintains the organization's supporter base in the community by performing the duties personally or through a marketing team.

Meets regularly and works closely with Promotions Coordinator to develop marketing strategies. Participates in the UFC promotions team.
Develops and executes short and long term marketing strategies, plans and programs to yield high quality furniture donations goals set by APEDF and market the store to the Oakland/Bay Area community to ensure growth of the organization's fundraising capacity.
Develops marketing materials that promote UFC in the context of the APEDF mission and national and local programs.
Builds and develops relationships with potentially supportive businesses, estate liquidators, sectors and community members to ensure ongoing donation referrals, develop regular donors and bring in high quality, large quantity and inventory donations.
Incorporates base strategy and seasonal campaigns established by APEDF into the marketing plans and builds on relationships with existing supporters.
Designs, develops and promotes volunteer opportunities for the marketing work. Coordinates volunteer sign-ups, follow up, development, training and acknowledgement.
Develops and carries out a supporter and donor appreciation program and initiates our supporter participation program. Coordinates phone calls to thank people for their support and to encourage their active participation in promoting Uhuru Furniture among their contacts, set up speaking opportunities at their church, community group etc.. Speaks to groups about APEDF and Uhuru Furniture.
Coordinates various administration tasks including data entry and record keeping; oversees copywriting, design, layout and production of promotional materials.; expands and maintains supporter database and email list.
Supervises other employees and volunteers in the marketing team and analyze the results from their work, Coordinate staffing for marketing projects and Marketing events.
Prepares marketing activity reports; analyzes incoming donations in order to inform committee of strengths and weaknesses in the marketing work; reports to the steering committee bi-weekly.
Physical Requirements: Requires physical activity, walking and ability to go up and down stairs. Must be able to lift at least 50lbs if necessary.
Qualifications: High School diploma plus two years of marketing and or promotions experience. Must have the ability to interact with people in person, on the phone and over computer. Possess writing skills and be able to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Abode Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Photo Shop is helpful.
Under the supervision of the Uhuru Furniture Store Manager you will coordinate the promotional campaigns including social media, print materials distribution, blog postings, through the distribution of print materials, internet, social media, supporter appreciation and development, production of html emails more.

Coordinate the use of social media to promote the nonprofit, foster brand awareness and improve customer service. Create content that attracts attention and encourages readers to share it with their social networks. Coordinate social media promotion of all Uhuru Furniture activities.
Oversee the distribution of print materials including posters in store windows, door hangers to residents throughout the Bay Area, and club cards to attendees at festivals. Coordinate groups of volunteers for four-hour shifts on Saturdays, Sundays and on some weekdays. This includes travel to the sites. Coordinate booths and volunteers doing club card distribution. Coordinate the preparation of materials needed for the shifts. Record the results of the work.
Oversee the daily photographing and posting of photos of furniture on the blog. Coordinate the design and production of our weekly html emails that inform our supporters of sales, events, and successes of APEDF.
Coordinate and develop a team of volunteers to participate on the promotions team.
Participate on the store steering committee and report to the store manager.
Go through sales training in order to participate on the sales floor.
Work with the Marketing Coordinator to develop a supporter and donor appreciation program and initiate our supporter participation program. The African People's Education and Defense Fund (www.apedf.org) needs your skills and talents to coordinate the outreach teams in one of its dynamic institutions - Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles in Philadelphia, PA. Under the direct supervision of the Marketing Coordinator, you will coordinate teams of volunteers going out to poster, door hang and hand out leaflets. This promotes Uhuru Furniture, resulting in donations, shoppers and volunteers. As the outreach coordinator you will be in direct contact with the volunteers on outreach shifts. You have the special responsibility of winning volunteers to a deeper understanding of the mission and programs of APEDF.
This is an unpaid internship with a commitment of a minimum of 6 months, 15-20 hours per week. Weekend hours are required.

Summer position - can lead to permanent position
Uhuru Furniture is looking for an experienced driver to pick up furniture donations all over Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Work with a partner and non-profit team to raise resources for the African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF) - www.apedf.org. We are looking for a careful and professional driver who is capable of moving furniture out of homes and up/down flights of stairs. The position is 2nd driver and will require some driving shift and some navigational shifts. Candidate must bring enthusiasm and respect for the APEDF Mission: APEDF strives to develop and institutionalize programs to defend the human and civil rights of the African community and address the grave disparities in education, health, health care and economic development of the African community.
This is hard work. Job requires moving furniture all day every day and working flexibly to ensure we collect as many resources as possible for the non-profit. Good communication skills are a must. We are looking for skill, efficiency and a team player. Position is for up to 5 days per week.
