Homeless mother who sent 6-year-old son to better school in the "wrong town" jailed for five years

This is why APEDF is needed everywhere! 5 years in jail for wanting the best for her child in a country with a two-tiered school system. We all know someone who has done this very same thing! Support the African People's Education and Defense Fund and help build a future where education is a right, not a privilege. APEDF calls for community control of education. Get involved!

Uhuru Furniture Philly Names Sayuri Stemp "Volunteer of the Quarter"

Since September, Sayuri has been enthusiastically jumping in to any and every type of work to forward Uhuru Furniture like a long-time team member - including doorhanging, training and leading new volunteers, sales and store organization, online promotions, building the APEDF health forum and upcoming MLK Day event, postering, flyering and tabling outreach, and has donated delicious homemade salted caramels to local Uhuru Movement events and bakesales. Sayuri works fantastically with all others and expresses a growing understanding of and love for the solutions coming from the African People’s Education and Defense Fund. When asked why she has chosen to bring such amazing support to Uhuru Furniture and APEDF, she said, “I started volunteering with Uhuru because of its commitment to the environmentally sustainable reuse of antique furniture, but I stayed because of the welcoming environment and the organizations dedication to the cause of self-determination for African people across the globe.” Sayuri, we appreciate the stand you take and the contributions you have made in forwarding the work of Uhuru Furniture and building APEDF in Philadelphia.
