Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles (UFC) is an economic development project of the non-profit African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF) located in the Lake Merritt district of Oakland, CA. UFC is a well-known and loved institution that reflects sectors of Oakland who understand and support the development of a sustainable economy in the hands of the African community as being key to the achievement of health, education and social justice.
As the Promotions Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in connecting the Oakland community with the mission of the African People's Education and Defense Fund resulting in donors, shoppers and volunteers participating at Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles. SUMMARY: Lead a team of volunteers and employees in achieving the promotions goals and strategies. (Strategies to yield high quality furniture donations and to increase the shopper base are determined through a collective process with the Uhuru Furniture management.) Build and maintain the organization.s supporter base of individuals and businesses through the production and distribution of print materials, traditional as well as social media campaigns, internet presence and through special promotional events, Analyze the results and prepare promotions activity reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include and are not limited to:
- Supervise other employees and volunteers in the marketing team and analyze the results from their work. Coordinate staffing for promotions projects. Participate in building relationships with individuals and businesses to yield donations of furniture as well as referrals.
- Plan and oversee the organization's advertising and promotions including print, electronic and literature distribution. Includes oversight of copy writing, design, layout and production of promotional materials.
- Coordinate traditional and social media promotions.
- Develop and carry out a supporter appreciation program. Expand and maintain supporter database and email list.
- Coordinate special marketing events.
- Prepare marketing activity reports.
QUALIFICATIONS: At least two years related experience OR bachelors degree in marketing. Proficiency in Adobe Indesign and Dreamweaver (or html code) or equivalents. Must submit portfolio of graphics design work. Experience leading a team of people. Have own vehicle for job-related travel. We are looking for communication, leadership, organizational and people skills, ability to multi-task, efficiency and passion for the APEDF mission.
